Robertson wasn't at VT when I was there, but was fortunate to hear one of
his lectures at the first "Around the Drillfield" summer sessions in July of 1990. He signed a copy of his book "Soldiers Blue and Gray" to my wife and I "with thanks and warmest regards from a fellow Hokie. Sincerely, James I Robertson, Jr. July 6, 1990 Virginia Tech." We were there for the 4th of July fireworks and a stay of 3-4 days in one of the dorms. We were doing a Civil War trip that started in Philadelphia across the state to Gettysburg on the 4th for a tour of the battle field down thru Charlottesville where they had a naturalization service going on at Jefferson's home, on to VT and then to Appomattox Court House and finally Petersburg battle field before arriving at mom's home in Portsmouth. My sister was with us which makes it more memorable.
